In the ever-evolving world of BookTok, where book recommendations can suddenly turn a novel into a viral sensation, one romantasy favorite is poised to captivate audiences all over again—this time, on screen. Rebecca Yarros’ enthralling series “Fourth Wing” is making its way to Prime Video, and fans are buzzing about the star-studded casting.
Esther McGregor, who charmed viewers with her performance in “We Were Liars,” is set to take on the role of Violet Sorrengail. Joining her as the brooding and mysterious Xaden Riorson is Emilio Sakraya, whose credits include hits like “Those About To Die” and “Warrior Nun.” This exciting adaptation comes as Amazon maintains an air of mystery, declining to comment on the details when approached by TheWrap.
The TV adaptation has been greenlit for a series order on Prime Video and features Hollywood heavyweight Michael B. Jordan as one of the executive producers. Meredith Averill, known for her work on “The Haunting of Hill House,” is set to steer the ship as showrunner and executive producer, adding her expertise in crafting thrilling narratives. Also joining the creative team is Lisa Joy, celebrated for her role in “Westworld,” who will direct the first episode.
For those new to “Fourth Wing,” the narrative follows Violet Sorrengail, a young woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when her dreams of joining the Scribe Quadrant are dashed by her mother, the commanding general. Instead, Violet finds herself among candidates vying to become elite dragon riders, a perilous journey that means graduate or die. Along the way, Violet encounters Xaden Riorson, a descendant of a rebellious faction endowed with shadow-wielding powers, and together they forge an unbreakable bond.
The series will be executed by an impressive lineup of producers, including Elizabeth Raposo for Outlier Society, and Kilter Films’ Lisa Joy, Jonathan Nolan, and Athena Wickham. Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark also join the executive producing team for Premeditated Productions.
“Fourth Wing” is the inaugural title of Yarros’ five-novel series. The journey continues with “Iron Flame,” “Onyx Storm,” and a fourth novel currently in development. Fans of the book series are thrilled to see McGregor bring Violet’s intricate character to life, drawing on her rich experience from productions like “Babygirl” and “The Room Next Door.”
Meanwhile, Sakraya, whose recent stint in Netflix’s “One Piece” as Koza has already garnered him significant fan support, was practically destined for the role of Xaden according to avid readers who have been fan-casting him for years.
As production ramps up, the anticipation for this romantasy adaptation intensifies. The book series has already captured the imaginations of readers and now, with this talented cast and creative team, the TV adaptation is set to do the same for Prime Video audiences.
