Bill Nighy, celebrated for his roles in Shaun of the Dead, About Time, Living, and The First Omen, is an actor whose presence elevates every project he’s part of. Fans are eagerly anticipating his appearance in the upcoming season two of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. However, there’s more on the horizon for this iconic actor, as his involvement in the forthcoming series Ascension is already creating buzz.

Produced by Apple TV, Ascension promises to be a chilling addition to the horror thriller genre. Directed by the talented Alfonso Cuarón, whose films such as Children of Men, Gravity, and Roma have captivated audiences worldwide, Ascension is shaping up to be a must-watch series. Co-showrunners Natalie Erika James and Christian White bring their horror expertise to the table, having previously collaborated on the 2020 film Relic and been instrumental in crafting the suspenseful tale of Apartment 7A.

Ascension is based on Adam Nevill’s 2012 novel Last Days, a narrative that immerses viewers in a psychological horror thriller. The story centers around Rose, portrayed by Outlander’s Caitríona Balfe, a relentless documentary filmmaker juggling her career and personal life post-divorce. Renowned for uncovering the truths of others, Rose finds herself embroiled in exploring the enigmatic 20th-century cult, the Church of Ascension. What begins as a source of solace soon reveals a menacing undercurrent.

Bill Nighy joins Ascension as Zac, a fellow documentarian who collaborates with Rose on a new project. His character is set to add depth and intrigue to the already compelling narrative. While Ascension explores the themes of evil, innocence, love, and sacrifice, viewers can expect a gripping tale that questions the lengths one might go to in safeguarding loved ones—even when the danger comes from within.

Although Ascension’s release date remains under wraps, the project’s momentum suggests that it might soon become the next cult mystery sensation. As audiences eagerly await this thrilling series, the addition of Bill Nighy only heightens anticipation.
