There’s something about spooky islands in the middle of nowhere that we just can’t get enough of. We raved about the small but devout community of Crockett Island in Netflix’s miniseries Midnight Mass, but now another small island town has stolen our hearts — and our Emmy votes — this year: Katie Dippold’s comedy-horror series, Widow’s Bay.
Many standout TV shows earned awards at last night’s 2026 Emmys, but none made history quite like Widow’s Bay. Despite stiff competition in the Best Comedy category, including FX/Hulu’s The Bear, HBO Max’s Hacks, and ABC’s Abbott Elementary, Widow’s Bay emerged victorious. In fact, the show won 13 additional awards, totaling 14, surpassing The Studio’s 13 awards last year and marking the most wins ever for a single season of a comedy show.
Widow’s Bay’s impressive haul at the 2026 Emmys is undeniable. The full list of awards includes Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Matthew Rhys, Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Stephen Root, and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Kate O’Flynn. Betty Gilpin took home the award for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, while Hiro Murai claimed the Best Directing for a Comedy Series accolade. Katie Dippold herself was recognized for Best Writing for a Comedy Series, showcasing her deft storytelling and humor. The talented team behind the show also garnered awards for Outstanding Casting, Cinematography, Score by David Fleming, Music Supervision by Toko Nagata, Production Design, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing, all in the Half-Hour categories.
It’s no surprise that Dippold’s series won so many awards. Although Widow’s Bay had a modest debut with its first episode on April 29, it quickly gained momentum to become a must-watch series by the season’s end, with standout performances from Matthew Rhys as Tom Loftis, the skeptical mayor, and Kate O’Flynn as Patricia Moyer, his eccentric yet heartfelt assistant.
What makes Widow’s Bay stand out in the crowded landscape of TV shows is how captivatingly different it is. Its dry humor, a monster-of-the-week-like structure, and the terrific cast work together to make Widow’s Bay compelling television.
