Over two years have passed since “The Acolyte” wrapped up its single season on Disney+, yet the show continues to be the most contentious and divisive entry in the live-action “Star Wars” lineup of the Lucasfilm and Disney+ era. Meanwhile, Mae, under the tutelage of Yoda, would be on a mission to track Osha, adding layers to the fabric of the Force.
One of the most intriguing aspects was the development of Manny Jacinto’s character, Qimir. Working directly for the ominous Sith Lord Darth Plagueis, Qimir would be involved in a series of assassinations. Flashbacks were set to explore Qimir’s origins, providing insight through both his eyes and those of his original master, Vernestra Rwoh. This layered storytelling could have offered rich, character-driven narratives that the “Star Wars” universe is known for.
The season would have delved into the enigmatic relationship between Qimir and his master. While living in opulence surrounded by snarky droids, Qimir would face demands from the dark Darth Plagueis to retrieve Osha, culminating in a dramatic confrontation. The emotional climax promised a spiritual union with Osha in a ‘Force deprivation pool,’ promising a unique blend of mysticism and personal growth.
Despite the show’s cancellation, the revealed outlines hint at what could have been a fascinating expansion of the “Star Wars” lore. Yet, with “The Mandalorian and Grogu” underperforming in theaters and overall criticism of the franchise at a high, Lucasfilm seems to be pivoting back to cinematic roots. The upcoming “Star Wars: Starfighter” aims to recapture the magic on the big screen, signaling a shift from TV to cinema.
