For Star Trek fans, the end of an era is upon us as Paramount+ officially concludes the current franchise. Not long ago, the Star Trek universe was thriving, with five active series captivating audiences. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy joined this illustrious lineup in January 2026, only to face cancellation shortly after the finale of its first season. Now, the final curtain falls on both Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
The fifth and final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds wrapped filming in December 2025, while Starfleet Academy wrapped production on its second season in February. Heartbreakingly, TrekCentral reports that the impressive sets of Starfleet Academy at Pinewood Studios Toronto are in the process of being dismantled, with a local online auction offering fans a chance to own a piece of Starfleet history.
Starfleet Academy boasted the largest sets ever created for Star Trek, including a breathtaking multi-level atrium, the iconic Starfleet Wall of Heroes, and the detailed USS Athena’s bridge. These stunning creations will soon be nothing more than memories as their dismantling progresses. Similarly, the intricate sets of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds at CBS Stages Canada in Mississauga are also being deconstructed, including cherished locations like the USS Enterprise bridge and Captain Pike’s quarters.
Though briefly held hopes for a Captain James T. Kirk spinoff, Star Trek: Year One, emerged following comments by executive producer Henry Alonso Myers, the dismantling of the Enterprise sets has dashed these prospects. Dedicated fans rallied, amassing over 42,000 signatures on a petition to save Starfleet Academy, but with the dismantling of the USS Athena’s sets, any chance of renewal is now lost.
For the first time in almost a decade, no Star Trek series is currently in production or on the horizon, marking a poignant moment in the franchise’s storied history. Yet, there is a silver lining for fans longing for new adventures. Both Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds seasons 4 and 5 have completed production, totaling 26 new episodes. These await their debut on Paramount+ in 2026 and 2027, providing viewers with fresh treks through the stars despite the deconstruction of beloved sets.
As we bid farewell to this vibrant chapter of Star Trek, the anticipation for upcoming episodes remains. Stay tuned to BlueBoxNERD for the latest updates from the world of nerd culture, and let’s boldly go together into the next phase of our journey.
