Savage New Trailer: Spider-Man Faces Darkest Battle Yet

After what’s felt like months of speculation, the second Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is finally here, and it’s got a decidedly savage vibe. Marvel has just officially released the trailer, which includes more action than the first, with a heavy focus on Spider-Man and Hulk’s story. The mysterious, invisible MCU villain whose identity remains unconfirmed also takes center stage. It’s remarkable that this deep into the marketing phase, the identity of the villain or Sadie Sink’s unnamed character is still under wraps. If Sony manages to keep these details secret in the final weeks before release, it will be a refreshing change.

Excitingly, the Brand New Day trailer also offers a first real look at the savage Hulk, a new version of Bruce Banner’s alter-ego. This Hulk appears to be under the control of an unseen nefarious foe. We’ve seen similar scenarios before, like in Avengers: Age of Ultron, when Banner lost control of the Hulk, leading to a rampage that Iron Man had to curb with his Hulkbuster armor. However, now Spider-Man must face this threat relying solely on his powers. With much of Hulk’s recent appearances characterized by Banner’s “Smart Hulk” solution, it’s thrilling to see Hulk in his pure, unrestrained form once again.

The first trailer for Brand New Day concentrated on the theme of rebirth as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man ventures independently after No Way Home. This time, we gain insights into Peter’s mutation and his decision to bring Banner back into his world. Peter seeks a solution for his evolving genes, questioning whether the bad parts can be removed while retaining the good. Banner’s thought-provoking response about nature’s duality offers a glimpse into why he never pursued a permanent cure for the Hulk, eventually accepting the Professor Hulk persona.

In Brand New Day, the stakes are higher, as Spider-Man confronts multiple enemies, including one who can mind-jack civilians instantly. Parker seeks out Jon Bernthal’s Punisher to protect MJ and Ned. Director Destin Daniel Cretton hints this could be a significant installment in Spider-Man’s journey, urging viewers to treat it as if it’s the last. Is Spider-Man really in danger of dying? While unlikely, this does seem to be the darkest Spider-Man film to date.

The trailer underlines Spider-Man’s struggle with his increasingly unmanageable powers. It suggests that his abilities might be expanding due to the mysterious threat demanding an evolution. Peter’s spider-sense is the only defense against the psychic force haunting New York, making him the city’s sole hope. Additionally, Peter’s identity crisis looms, as he grapples with the notion of who he is if those close to him no longer remember him.
