In an unexpected but creative twist, filming for the upcoming Jimmy Olsen show is taking place at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. The set has been transformed into Metropolis University, complete with banners in signature blue and purple hues. Eagle-eyed fans, including a Georgia Tech student, have leaked photos of the set on TikTok, fueling excitement and speculation. While some initially assumed these images were from the set of Man of Tomorrow, it’s now confirmed that the production wrapped up in August.
On August 21, James Gunn shared on Twitter that the Jimmy Olsen series is officially moving forward at HBO. This eight-part mockumentary, directed by Olsen himself, is set to provide a “360-degree view” of Grodd’s controversial case. The synopsis teases an exploration into Grodd’s alleged “murder and brain consumption” of his father, King Grodd, adding layers to the iconic character first introduced as a Flash antagonist in 1959. Grodd’s fascinating origin story began with a space rock that granted him hyper-intelligence and mind-control abilities, making him a formidable adversary.
The choice of a university setting stems from the documentary’s format, which will include expert interviews and witness accounts related to Grodd’s trial. A notable set detail includes a newspaper dated November 3, 1989, suggesting that Olsen will delve into the past by consulting university professors about the super gorilla’s powers. This narrative choice underscores the show’s commitment to an immersive and engaging storyline that bridges Grodd’s complex history with contemporary intrigue.
