Excitement is building as fans of the “Incredibles” franchise have something to look forward to—”Incredibles 3″ is set to hit theaters on June 16, 2028. This anticipated sequel, which follows the monumental success of 2004’s “The Incredibles” and 2018’s “Incredibles 2,” will bring back the super-family we all adore, and introduce new twists and turns to their story.
This time around, Peter Sohn takes the directorial reins from Brad Bird. Sohn, who contributed to the first film and directed Pixar hits like “The Good Dinosaur” and “Elemental,” promises to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved series. Brad Bird, meanwhile, will remain closely involved as a writer and executive producer, ensuring the continuity of the original vision.
According to Pete Docter, Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, the latest installment will see Winston Deaver, voiced by Bob Odenkirk, launching a superhero league with a blend of marketing and merchandise. Although Deaver’s league has gained traction, it’s the new focus on Violet and Dash that is likely to capture the audience’s attention. The siblings, now gaining confidence in their heroic abilities, are off on adventures while juggling their responsibilities of caring for their unpredictable baby brother, Jack-Jack, who continues to surprise—with new powers unfolding.
In an intriguing narrative shift, this film presents the family with a dilemma: the legality of superheroes doesn’t guarantee their moral integrity. The Parr family faces a supervillain more formidable than ever, testing their abilities and unity. Adding depth to the storyline, Mr. Incredible is grappling with an identity crisis. Although his dream of returning to the superhero world has come true, he is questioning his place in it as time marches on.
The legacy of “The Incredibles” not only lies in its unforgettable characters and stories but also in its influence on theme park attractions, video games, and countless merchandise. While previous films centered on Mr. Incredible’s journey and Elastigirl’s comeback, this sequel could redefine the dynamics by focusing on the younger generation—Violet and Dash.
Brad Bird isn’t just busy with the “Incredibles” legacy. His upcoming project “Ray Gunn,” releasing on Netflix on December 18, demonstrates his ability to transcend styles—pairing animation with film noir elements. This project reunites him with several “Incredibles” alumni, building anticipation for both his new release and the continuing adventures of the Parr family.
