Get ready for some spellbinding drama as Crave and AMC+ bring us the highly anticipated series, Yaga. This series promises to be a magical ride, with an incredible cast including Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, Clark Backo, and Hudson Williams. The intriguing atmosphere is amplified by Alanis Morissette’s haunting cover of “Season of the Witch,” which soundtracks the show’s two-minute trailer.
The bewitching trailer, released this Friday, pulls viewers right into the mystery when it opens with Backo’s character Carson, a local detective, and Reid’s character Rapp, a private investigator, probing into the disappearance of Henry Park, portrayed by Williams. Amidst the shadows and the suspense, the trailer promises spooky and, indeed, steamy antics.
Yaga takes inspiration from the myth of Baba Yaga, cleverly reimagined by series creator Kat Sandler. Sandler is not only the show’s writer but also serves as the showrunner, and she’s brought a fresh spin to the familiar tale, describing the series as “not your grandmother’s Baba Yaga.” This modern reinterpretation of the myth has captivated audiences already, with the series premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.
As the story unfolds over eight captivating half-hour episodes, the first two episodes are set to debut on October 23, with new episodes following weekly. The gripping narrative will culminate in an exciting two-episode finale on November 27. The story explores Rapp’s journey to a small coastal town, on a mission to unravel the mystery of the missing young heir, Henry Park. The official synopsis teases a tangled web of suspicious characters, including an apprehensive detective, Carson, and a charismatic professor, Katherine, played by Moss.
Series creator Kat Sandler describes Yaga as a compelling evolution of her original play. It moves beyond myth to become a modern tale that boldly reclaims and transforms the traditional wicked witch archetype into a fierce feminist antihero.
Yaga also showcases an impressive supporting cast featuring talents such as Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, and Ezra Franky, along with many others. With Williams taking on a dual role, the series promises exciting and unexpected twists at every turn.
Produced by Front Street Pictures and Blink49 Studios, Yaga is set to be a standout entry in the realm of supernatural drama. The creative team, including executive producers Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller, and Moss, as well as directors David Frazee and Rachel Talalay, guarantees a high-quality viewing experience.
