In an exciting development for fans of the iconic G.I. Joe franchise, Bradley Cooper has been cast as Duke, the leader of the Joes, in an upcoming film directed by Danny McBride. This news comes months after McBride, known for his comedic genius, was announced as the director for the new project based on the beloved Hasbro toy series for Paramount.
According to Deadline, this casting choice follows a period of uncertainty for Cooper, who was juggling his commitments to an Ocean’s Eleven prequel alongside Margot Robbie. However, upon delving into the script for G.I. Joe, Cooper was inspired to join the action-packed world of the Joes. This collaboration not only brings his talent as an actor to the project but could also leverage his skills as a filmmaker, adding an intriguing layer to this reimagining of the G.I. Joe narrative.
Initially, McBride had pitched a storyline focusing on the Dreadnoks, a subgroup of evil G.I. Joe characters, showcasing his penchant for unique and daring ideas. Paramount, however, steered the project towards a broader theme. While exact plot details remain under wraps, McBride’s concept of a town under Cobra control could still play a pivotal role in the film’s storyline, offering rich potential for thrilling new adventures.
As Duke, Cooper becomes a pivotal figure leading the charge in what promises to be an exhilarating addition to the G.I. Joe universe. This casting choice is a promising start, likely to attract other big names to the project, sparking excitement and anticipation among fans and industry watchers alike.
Despite the buzz, the project did suffer a setback with the cancellation of a crossover film between G.I. Joe and Transformers, leaving fans to wonder what could have been. Yet, this new standalone venture marks a fresh, revitalized chapter for the franchise, tailored for modern audiences.
While there’s no official release date yet, a 2028 debut is a fair prediction. As anticipation builds around Cooper’s portrayal of Duke, fans are eagerly awaiting further announcements, including additional casting news and more plot revelations.
