Excitement is brewing in the Marvel universe as Ben Wang, known for his roles in “Karate Kid: Legends” and “American Born Chinese,” is reportedly in talks to take on the iconic role of Iceman/Bobby Drake in the upcoming “X-Men” film at Marvel Studios. According to Deadline, Wang has emerged victorious in a competitive selection process, beating out several talented actors, including Gabriel LaBelle, Jackson Kelly, and Rhenzy Feliz.

Iceman holds a pivotal place in the X-Men lore as a founding member. His mutant power of cryokinesis enables him to generate and control ice and cold, creating an interesting dynamic essential to the X-Men’s diverse team of superheroes. Wang’s potential addition to the cast highlights Marvel’s dedication to bringing fresh talent into the franchise.

The film’s casting choices continue to generate buzz. The confirmed lineup includes big names such as Christopher Abbott stepping into the revered role of Professor X and Adam Driver portraying the villainous Mr. Sinister. Kit Connor will take on the role of Cyclops, while Samara Weaving is set to bring Emma Frost to life. Adding to this powerhouse ensemble are Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Asa Germann as Angel, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. There’s also a swirling rumor that Morgan Spector, known for his role in “The Gilded Age,” might enter the mix as the formidable Magneto.

Helmed by director Jake Schreier with a script penned by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, the film is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2028. As anticipation builds, Wang’s casting could provide a fresh take on Iceman, promising to captivate both new and long-time fans of the franchise.

Aside from his possible role in “X-Men,” Wang is set to appear in “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” where he portrays District 12 tribute Wyatt Callow. His rising career trajectory suggests we can expect remarkable performances from him in the near future.
