Good news for Westeros fans: if you couldn’t get enough of the epic tales unfolding in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, you’re in for a treat. HBO’s Casey Bloys recently confirmed at the Emmys that we’ll be seeing the second season in the next Emmy eligibility window, which concludes on May 31, 2027.
The announcement came within a lineup packed with returning favorites, including new seasons of The Pitt, The Gilded Age, White Lotus, I Love L.A., and Rooster. Bloys emphasized the dynamic mix of both comedy and drama hitting HBO soon, underscoring The Pitt’s return in January as a dramatic highlight. He also noted upcoming limited series like The Trial of Louise Woodward.
For A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the turnaround is particularly impressive. The first season only aired in January 2026, so fans will have waited just over a year for the sequel. This is notably quick compared to the two-year hiatus between seasons of its sibling series, House of the Dragon. The show, based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas about Dunk, a hedge knight, and his squire, Egg, has captured the imagination of viewers by bringing to life tales from Westeros’s rich history.
Showrunner Ira Parker has hinted at grander plans for the series. While only three novellas exist, a fourth installment seems to be underway. Parker revealed ambitions to extend the show beyond three seasons, possibly to four or five. He mentioned that the fourth book will explore intriguing new locations, and the fifth might lead to a poignant narrative endpoint with Egg as a boy. Parker envisions an eventual shift in storytelling to explore Egg’s potential as a prince, with storylines set in iconic hubs like Summerhall and King’s Landing.
